Google Workspace gives you Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, and Calendar. Business plans start around $6 per user per month for the basic tier. Everything is browser-based and works well on any device.
Microsoft 365 gives you Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint. Business plans start around $6 per user per month for the basic tier as well, with higher tiers including the full desktop Office apps. The desktop applications are what most businesses are thinking of when they consider Microsoft 365.
Where Microsoft 365 has the advantage
- Desktop Office applications — Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are the standard for most professional services, legal, and financial work; Google Docs is capable but not a full replacement for complex documents
- Outlook and Exchange email — deeply integrated with calendars, shared mailboxes, and distribution lists in ways that matter for larger teams

Who should choose Google Workspace

Google Workspace also tends to work better for teams that are fully remote and spread across different devices and operating systems.
Can you switch later?
Yes, but it is not trivial. Migrating email history, files, and contacts between platforms takes planning and some downtime. It is easier to make the right choice upfront than to migrate later.
If you are already on one platform and it is working, staying is almost always better than switching unless you have a specific problem that the other platform solves.
